Default new wheels?

I've been looking for a nice set of 17" wheels (2nd hand) for my XJS. But there do not seem to be much around.

Can anyone tell me what to look for? size?
I've heard people talking about adapting BMW wheels that fit XJS? Since there are a lot more of second hand BMW wheels, that would be a good option?

Can anyone give me more info about that matter?

Would the wheels of a BMW E39 fit? (that's the older 5 series BMW)

best regards,

Fred

The fronts will fit - offset on the 17x8 M's are 19mm bore is correct and you will need wobbly nuts to account for the different PCD. The rears might the 17x9 rear wheels have a 25mm offset if my memory serves me correctly this might have the tyres rubbing on the inner guards.

So they can be machined to fit?

these would be my choice, I think they match the XJS perfectly (like Mish's car)

You would need to talk to a wheel shop about machining the rear to increase the offset. It can weaken the wheel if the hub becomes to thin.

Default XK8 wheels

17" inch XK8 wheels, fit perfect no mods required and they are inexpensive.

Those are from an S-type jaguar and won't fit. Jag has two different wheel bolt arrangement. You need to look at wheels from an xk8 till 2006 or an xj till 2003 for 17" wheels. The x-type, s-type, xj 2004- and xk 2007- all have the newer metric bolt spacing, these wont fit your car.

look for a set with the 3 series bmw offset. 30-33mm and have the hub centers bored out to 74.1

Jag has 3 different PCD (bolt patterns) 5x108 (S and X Type), 5x120 ( Later XJ/XF/XK) and 5x120.65 (pre 2004 XJ/XK), not to mention hub diameter ans offset. The XJS is pretty unique in its offset the front needs a low offset and the rear needs a higher.

If you use BMW they are 5x120 you will need wobbly nuts to account for the slight difference in PCD. DO NOT bolt 5x120 directly to your XJS it uses 5x120.65 there is a chance you will snap wheel studs.

I second this, however, if it was up to me, I would avoid the "wobbly nuts" on such a critical application. I would try to recut the bolt seats to the correct pattern by either 1) making a jig, or 2) having a machine shop do it on a mill.

If you insist on using the wobbly nuts, I would at least by certain that you have the proper wheel-to-hub fit, so the hub is sharing the load with the studs.

I don't think the BMW wheels have the optimal offset for our cars anyway (30-33mm) so I abandoned the BMW wheel idea altogether. Too bad though - they have some really nice wheels... especially the "Style 5" 2-piece BBS wheels!
