Default Newbie question

I recently ( yesterday) acquired a 1995 XJS convertible with the 4.0L inline 6. I did not get an owner/operator manual for the car and I have a few questions some owner might be able to help with. Some of these question would be answered with an owner manual..but until I can source one or find someone willing to give an old one up I'll just ask questions.

I have Two TIBEE keys for the car ( one has the little push button for a light - which doesn't currently function ) the other key is the same but no light -

This is late 1994 production car vin is 195942 sold as a 1995 model. SDN paint code with a nice cream leather interior and brown soft top.

Would this car have come with a central locking system ( their is no door lock button on the console or the doors )

Would this car have come with a FOB style remote - to unlock the doors etc...

I do see the small red light by the cigarette lighter which I think is for a "security system" but I'm not sure how to activate...

I have seen the FOB remote for sale listing this years model - and I've seen the how to program. Just not sure they all came with one...

When you unlock the drivers door with the key it does not automatically unlock the passenger door - is that normal or a sign of an issue ?

Any help and or suggestions would be useful.

Thanks

Dave

Hi and welcome Dave. I never understand what you NA's do with the handbooks. :-)

1} Hand book here.....
1995 jaguar xjs handbook | eBay

2) Yes it would have an alarm and the black keys l think have a transponder too. If it has a green key that's the valet key, opens doors and ignition only. I believe the key fob is 318 MHz and are sometimes available from Jaguar or ebay.

3) Red LED on cigar lighter is for the alarm. Where did you buy the car. have you asked about key fob and hand book ?

4) It should unlock passenger door. The Trunk has a 3 way key lock Left to lock middle open and right to unlock with remote ( or the other way round...)

If I'm wrong someone will be along soon to correct me lol

I have a service manual on order - but would like an owners handbook to explain basic operations and show where things are... I'm having a hard time justifying $100 USD for an owners hand booklet... particularly because I'm in CND and I have to pay an extra 30% to convert to CND dollars - so that's $ 130 plus shipping for manual -

I'd settle for a PDF downloadable version - I don't need to carry it in the car - just for reference...

My car came with only the fob remote--and I don't think it's original, either, as it's larger than the pictures, and has no Jaguar markings. It works, however. I did not get a door key, and had to have that separately ordered from Jaguar--they need your VIN and (probably) proof of ownership.

At any rate, I checked the key today to see what it opened. Key in driver's door, turned (a bit stiff), and everything released: passenger door, fuel cap, boot. So if yours doesn't release everything, either there's a problem, or you only have the valet key perhaps.

Yeah, me too. Guilty as charged. I'll work on it.
