Default Oilfilter housing and oil cooler

Hi,

my V12 spreads all her oil everywhere on the engine. So while I'm doing all the engine bay, I might as well do the oil issues too.

My XJ-S has the full flow oil cooler (at least that is what I can determin) which has a different oil filter bracket/case compared to the relief flow cooler. Are there any common leaks regarding this part? I mean, after looking at the drawings on the Jag classics site, I think there are more oil seals in that one section than in the engine bay above the crank case!

So, what seals go wrong and should be done whilst at it? The car is luckily a RHD so no problems with space... Also has no cats... So compared to some US cars pribably more space than anything else down there

At the same time: the return hose from the oil cooler to the engine has been botched. Are these hoses normally clamped on or screwed on? If screwed: are the hoses crimped on with sleeves or how are they done? I guess any hydraulics shop should be able to reproduce - right?

Cheers

Damien

PS: my goal is to have a Jag which doesn'mark her territory. The front is nearly done! Just the sump pan of the tranny and the rear axle after these two parts... She should then be dry

There are o/rings on the 2 large cooler pipes that leak.

There are o/rings inside the small alloy drain back housing that has 3 bolts holding it to the top face of the sandwich plate, and you guessed it, they leak regularly.

There is the small relief drain hose that also goes from that housing to the top of the sandwich plate, and it leaks with old age. Some have a 1 piece hose, others have a metal "goose neck" pipe and 2 small hoses.

The gasket between the oil filter housing and the block is getting to be a common leaker now, age related.

The copper washers on teh large banjo, NAH, not really.

That oil feed pipe itself has been known to fracture, but you usually empty the sump in about 30 seconds, so possibly not an issue at the moment.

Daim
Grant 100% as always. basically, undo everything that can be undone on the oil filter assembly including where it goes into the sump and replace all the O rings!

The oil cooler flexible hose should all be screw fittings and the fittings swaged to the flexible pipes. The steel pipes that enter the oil cooler casting are clamped in by a common clamp on a stud in the filter head between the two pipes, and each pipe has an O ring to be chnaged too.

If you have already done the cam covers and somehow seeled the tappet block/head join, then after the oil filter area, there is just the sump and sandwich plate to go...

Cheers Greg!

I'll be ordering all the gaskets required and will have a new hose made up... Thought it looked like a bad repair...
