Default Overflow pipe fuel smell

While under the car I noticed a smell of fuel. It was coming from the overflow pipe that comes from the filler cap down through the boot and out the bottom of the wing. Is this normal and if not what could cause it or how do I correct it? Thanks for any help. Keep safe all.

That one may need a photo Brinny.
Mine has nothing like what you have explained.

Or maybe you mean the drain hose that is near the filler cap under the flap. This should only smell like fuel if you spill during a refill

Cheers
Steve

If it's like mine it will be the rubber seal on the gas cap that isn't sealing anymore. I just replaced the cap and it seems to be ok now.

yes that hat is the hose I mean. It smells of fuel coming out of the end of the pipe under the car.

Normal for 30-40yr old rubber seals. Just buy a new gas cap.

if problem persists your fuel vapour system may be an issue...I just tore mine out left the pipe end open and saved 15lb of junk as per Grant's suggestion.
