oxygen sensor replacement
Any thoughts/recommendations on oxygen sensor replacement?
My 1987 XJS V12 has unheated sensors, and since I'm going to replace them, is there any reason NOT to go with heated sensors? I take it I'll have to devise a method to power the heaters, but I wouldn't thing that would be too difficult (since people here have probably done it 100 times and can advise me on it).
I've built a circuit that will display a bargraph LED for each bank of how rich/lean they are running. Do the heated sensors all work in the range of 0 to 1.0 volts?
Thanks in advance,
John

Many have upgraded to the heated sensors.
Jaguar recalled a slew of XJ6s back in the day to retrofit heated sensors and used the fuel pump circuit as a voltage supply. Not sure if that was simply convenient as the relay was closeby on the firewall or if the goal was to have voltage to the heaters *only* when the engine was actually running.
Cheers

oxygen sensor replacement
Ok...thanks for that Doug. Now the hard part...getting the damn thing off!
Possibly Hercules himself was one of the PO's, but I can't budge the sensor to save my life. By chance are these things threaded backward?
I've attached a pic in case this is new for someone else (like it is for me).
BTW, from where the oxygen sensor attaches everything aft, right up to the tailpipes, is painted silver. Is there something significant to this, or are they all painted that way?
Thanks,
John
