Paint Black Undercoat
My 1989 Jaguar has the entire underside of the car painted with a black rubber coating. I am repainting the car and put the rubber coating where the original under coating was sprayed and where the body color starts and stops. Attached are a few areas that I have in question. Hopefully I can get all the pictures to attach.
- Where the exhaust pipes come out from under the car. Was the flared metal painted with the rubber undercoating or body color?
- How high did the black undercoating come up from under the trunk area? Mine comes up and ends parallel to the top of the exhaust pipes come out.
- Underneath the car, the black coating is applied under the car up and over the steel rail under both sides of the car past the ribbed steel flutes out from the rail approximately 1". Where should the black coating stop, then change to the exterior color of the car?
- The engine bay has the steel strip at the top of the firewall where the bonnet latches. The entire 90* strip is painted black. Should this be the same as the body color?
Not from the factory, no. But possibly from the dealer?
Dealer is what I suspect. As mentioned, mine was applied from new but it was done by the dealer. I have the invoice from 1986.
