Default Part Number Help, PLEASE Oil Gauge / switch / sending unit

Dear members,
Me and my car (XJS v12, 5.3L Vin#183425) Facelift convertible need some assistance. And I need a drink!

I am wishing to replace the oil pressure gauge / sending unit.

There seems to be A LOT of different information and ambiguity on the exact part number from various websites.

Jagbits states that C46272 fits "SENDING UNIT, OIL PRESSURE GAUGE, FITS 1976-1987 XJ6 AND 1976-1992 5.3 LITER V12 XJS AND 3.6 XJS. (C46272)" Doesn't list any VIN # cutoff.
Terry's Jaguar Parts states that C46272 fits "
XJS 1975 - 1992 Up To VIN# 179736
SNG states that JLM20791 replaces the gauge with a simple on/off indicator and fits all XJS Facelift [** BUT it doesn't state if this is all 5.3L face lifts or only the later 6.0 face lift).
Jagbits states that JLM20791 only fits XJS 4.0 and 6.0

What is the part that I need for the XJS facelift 5.3L?

In 2011, I replaced the oil sending gauge on my Daimler Double Six 1993 (6.0) with JLM20791 (purchased from Jagbits) and it has been perfect. Yes, it doesn't show pressure, only if there is pressure, but that is fine with me. It has worked a charm.

Will JLM20791 fit the 1992 XJS 5.3L?
Will C46272 fit the 1992 XJS 5.3L?

If neither fit, what is the part # I need?

Charles,

Had that drink, AFTER I looked up the parts listing
C42200 WAS the OE number.
This changed to LHD5642AA, and is the same as the 6ltr for your Vin Range.

The Parts drawing shows only 1 sender unit in the banjo fitting, with the 5.3 having a plug in the 2nd port, BUT, the 6 ltr only has a single port in that Banjo, and hence NO plug, saved all of 10cents per car doing that, HA.

Good luck.

All of the variants have the same thread size, and the part they screw into is the same on all the V12s. So, in that sense, they all interchange. They'll all physically fit into place.

As far as I can tell C46272 is the only sender that gives the true gauge reading. It has the larger "bell" shape although some replacements vary slightly in shape

All of the other part numbers are the fixed reading type. The part number progression is, as far as I can tell, DAC11141 to LMD5640AB to JLM20791 to DAC7879 to DBC5513

These are much smaller.

I don't know what your car was originally built with.

Here are pics of the two types

Cheers
DD

C46272 is the correct sending unit for all 5.3 Liter XJS models
