Pre facelife Wiper stalk - reassembly?
Hi there,
I have taken apart my wiper stalk to clean the parts inside. It was spring loaded and I can't seem to place a ball that flew out from inside. Any ideas? Maybe one of you has done this.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

Did you download that Kirby Palm book yet?
Either try gluing it together or making up some brackets:

Reassembly requires some ingenuity. A 2-1/8” length of 1/2” aluminum angle and two 1-1/2” #6 screws works well. Cut some plastic away on the back side of the switch, then lay the angle against it and insert the screws through holes in it and into the threaded mounting holes in the switch housing. The screws will protrude through the front, where you can use the ends to mount the switch back in the column with a couple of nuts and lock washers. The metal angle will help prevent the plastic housing from deforming and allowing the contact problems described above.
Hi yes I've looked at the kirby files. I can put it back together and get it to hold strong. But I'm unsure where the metal ball goes. Also the stalk appears loose now. This is a spare stalk thank goodness.
Thanks

It goes on top of the pinkish looking plug on top of the barely visible spring on the right hand side. Push the plug down, add a blob of grease to the top of it then put the ball bearing on there. Now carefully put the two halves back together. You might have try try a few times before everything goes back into the right place. I superglued mine in place after having drilled out the rivets but time will tell whether this is a good, lasting solution. Ideally I'd cut off the remains of the four rivets and then drill and tap four small screw holes so I could screw it back together, but that takes time and effort and I'm far too lazy!
Good luck.
Good luck.
