Problem opening/ closing doors with key remote
I purchased a 1995 Jaguar xjs 2+2 convertible and it came with the original Jaguar remote fob bit it was missing a battery. I put a new battery and concluded the remote does work, because when I push the open door button on the remote the car beep but the doors does not lock/unlock. So I am assuming the problem is in the car not the remote. Any feedback on how to fix this problem will be appreciated.

Check the car battery. Flaky door locks usually signal a dying battery.
Without knowing what kind of beep you’re hearing, it could also mean that the alarm system doesn’t think the doors are all closed....and the trunk. There could be a problem with the car thinking the trunk is still open? Easy way to test that is drop your phone into the trunk while it’s taming video and close the trunk. Is the light off? Then it’s probably not the case.
Can the doors be locked with the key? If you lock the drivers door, will the passenger door also lock too? What about using the key on the passenger door?
What happens when you lock the door manually inside the car? (With the car on). What about actuating the passengers door lock manually? What happens?

Thank you for your reply, The battery is new and is fully charged, it might be that the trunk door was unlocked as I had the tricker charger plugged into the battery. As I am away from home until mid week, I will verify your suggestions and answer your questions.

Hi Vee,
I just get back home and tried to get the answers to your questions, hopefully you can help me identify the problem causes.
The car key will look and unlock the passage door and the truck door but does not lock the driver door. If I lock the passenger door with the key, the driver door don't lock.
When I hit the fob button and all the doors are closed, the car will give ones short beep and it does not lock or unlock any door.
When I hit the fob button again within 2 seconds from the first hit, the car will give a slightly longer beep and no door will lock/unlock, but if I open any door the car alarm will turn on and will stop only by hitting the button on the fob.
When I hit the fob button 3 times within 2 seconds between each hit, the car will beep twice but nothing else happen.
Nothing happen when I lock the driver/passenger door manually inside the car when the car off or running.
I just noticed that its very hard to lock the driver door from inside the car, but it will not lock by the key from outside.
Let me know what you conclude from that other than I have to check the lock of the driver door.

Nehman,
The locks on the XJS doors suffer from 2 problems. The actuators can get "lazy" either through wear or through poor electrical connections. The other issue relates to the rods that connect the lock to the internal chrome lock flap.
I would start by removing the door card and then check both of these issues. If the chrome door flap or rods are tight or ill-adjusted it can stop the car unlocking through the fob, or even the key.
Good luck
Paul

I believe it's the door lock actuator on your drivers side door. BEC9461 (make sure that's for the drivers door)
Kind of a pain to get to, but doable.
Some people on this forum have had luck with lubing the hell out of it, others like me, needed to replace it entirely. I hope you have relatively small hands. It's certainly a rube goldberg system of lock mechanisms in that door. Just be careful and patient.

Thank you Paul for the hint. I will try that lubing it first. Will keep you posted.
