Default Project 'Leaper'

Project 'Leaper' Removal

Just look where the Previous Owner put my 'Leaper'

What a Place to put a 'Leaper'

It makes a lovely Paperweight but I want if off my Car!

A Great looking Paperweight but its coming off my Car.

The only problem being, it left Two holes in the Bonnet/Hood but I managed to find some (Stainless Steel) Allen Key Bolts that look like Rivets.

Stainless Steel Allen Key Bolts that look like Rivets

Rivets in Place
Just needs a bit of Buffing on the Paint where the 'Leaper' came off and though it isn't perfect.
'Anything Looks Better Than A 'Leaper'

But Should I Paint the Rivets or leave them Stainless Steel?

Default My Solution.....

If it was my car I would leave them stainless......but not until you bounce the Leaper off the previous owners head ! I would love to hear his explanation as to why he mounted it where it was.

Get some touch up paint and paint them the color of your car, they will pretty much disappear. Make sure the holes in the hood are painted while you are at it, to prevent rust.

Hi BC

I'm not intending to drill any more holes in the Bonnet/Hood, I've already got Two too many! (Lol)

There is a possibility that he wanted it as a sight mark so he didn't hit the kerb, that's the only plausible explanation I can think of.

Yeah! I could do, I'm still mulling that over.

Tis odd??? I've used those fasteners. Neat, I've heard them termed as
"button head".

As for me, I like the Leaper on my XJ wuzza 6. Reminder of past cars.
Each with it's distinct hood ornament. Packard, Cadillac, RR, even Fords and Plymouth!! Our family 38 Dodge wore a proud RAM!

The post WWII Buicks Had a torpedo through a ring. Teens busted off the ring as a trophy present to impress their gal.

Wish my JEEP had one, the little fellow in old Popeye stories...

I do admit to removing the ornaments from my 47 Ford, and then the 49 Mercury. Sooth noses was the style???

Looks like the PO set it back to catch any bugs that got pass the front edge of the hood - LOL !

You should touch those heads up with touch up color so your eye is not drawn to them. I would see if you can grind the heads down flatter off the car with a spare one. Getting them as flat as possible before you touch them up will make them even harder to notice.

Make sure you do the touch up etc. off the hood so you do not leave dents out in the middle of the hood working on them and be careful not to over tighten them.

Come to think of it you could always mount a weather vane out in the middle of the hood so you can tell how your next rain storm is moving in.

I suspect that there was some humor involved. Asymetrical styling???

Please a feminine passenger???

Very interesting.....

He just wanted to remind himself that he was actually driving a Jag, constantly! Just paint the screws body color and try to ignore.

Remove the fasteners and leave the holes open for improved cooling performance.

Mount the leaper on your lawn mower or something. Hmm, will the cat open bottles?
