A question about low resistance plug wires
After having a new distributor cap and rotor installed, I decided to put in new plugs and a new wire set too.
I shopped online and purchased a Bosch Premium wire set which were said to be a match for my car.
Having received the set I checked the resistance of each wire and found it was very low indeed. For example the No.6 wire is supposed to be in a range of 9.1 to 21.4 k ohm and my existing wire is at 13.8 k ohm. However the Bosch wire is only 1.5 k ohm. All the other wires are also low, all registering about 500 ohm per foot.
I guess that lower resistance would allow more energy to flow to the plug but my question is, is there too much of a good thing? Can such a low resistance harm the engine in any way?
Many thanks,
Allan

Since nobody else has replied...yet...I'll jump in and say that, after minor mulling, I don't see it as a problem. I can't think of anythng in the ignition system that requires or wants to "see" a certain minimum amount of resistance.
I must say, though, that it's the first time I've ever seen the question come up so I'm certainly not speaking with authority.

Thanks Doug,
It might just be technology. 20+ years ago that was probably good enough to give enough energy to the plugs and keep the RFI down.
I'll go ahead and see what happens when I install them.

Well installed the wire set and new plugs and went for a drive, not impressed!! The engine runs fine but the RFI is horrid, even my normally crystal clear radio stations now have lots of static and some others can barely be heard. The wire set will be on it's way back to Amazon tomorrow
Gah!
Sorry.
I wasn't even thinking of radio noise. Dumb me. I was thinking only along the lines of how the engine/ignition might react...not the radio or other systems
Cheers
