I don't know the seller and have no interest in the sale, but I thought this one is interesting.
With all the negative comments regarding Craigslist XJS' for sale recently, this is a bit different. Almost makes me want to bring it home and fix it up......almost.

Can't imagine anyone would pay anything to take this off the man's hands.

The car is a total wreck.

The fact that he's asking 4 digits for this car is unreal.

$500 TOPS, and that would have to come from someone who really loves this particular MY, and color combination and is unable to find it anywhere else after years of searching.

Even then...

 

Just say NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'd offer $600.00 for that nice Nardi wheel...and have him include the car for free.

 

1500 to 1800 is fair. Seems like the hood can be repaired and that car is a great candidate for a Chevy conversion.

 

I'd put a lawnmower engine in it and just cruise around town, or else close the hood and just sit and look at it!

 

It would STILL be easier to get a V-12 Jaguar engine or donor car, wreckers car (believe me they are out there and there probably isn't much wrong with his engine internals. A donor XJS to pull the harness and burnt ancillaries from would do fine) and put it in then go through the trouble of getting the Chevy engine, the conversion kit and making it smoothly work. Why do some think that's the answer to any V-12 whoas? I lit the whole top of a 283 I'd dropped into a 68 Camaro and watched it spit, back fire and light the top of the engine on fire.....it really wasn't anything more then replacing some electrical plugs, wires and vacuum ports/hoses, I bet the fire dept did more harm the good when they showed up (don't get me wrong their help is ALWAYS appreciated but they can do a number on an engine when a simple well placed packing blanket will do the trick) I just threw my jacket on mine and it went out and I went to work the next day on it, the only difference is the 283 is way less complex in it's lack of wires, hoses and plugs and I didn't have a fire dept douse the whole thing with powders and water.

Yeah sure,just buy another one,swap engines,respray etc etc Easy DIY and only needs a few wires?

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. As you said, their help is always appreciated, but cleaning up after the portable fire extinguisher would be bad enough.

*IF* you have lots of time and *IF* you have a donor car alongside (or at least close by) burn jobs often aren't as difficult as they look. When you get all the burned stuff removed and everything cleaned up it's pretty much just a matter of methodically reinstalling parts.

If the fire damage has spread into the cabin, well, that can get pretty .....interesting.

Frankly, though, this particular car doesn't have any redeeming qualities IMHO. It's starting to rust, the leather is coming undone, those side strips would have to come off and the holes filled and painted.....and it probably has all the typical "used XJS issues" as well.

I'd pass on this car but a better/nicer XJS with burn damage *might* be a good choice for the right person.
