At about 1988/9 the original HE version of the car was updated to a degree: the Delainair mark 3 aircon, different seats, and Ford switchgear on the column were fitted, but no bodywork was chnaged.
Later on in about 1991/2 significant bodywork alterations were made, and significant wiring loom, switchgear, instrument, engine and gearbox mods too. These later cars (post 1991/2) are referred to a facelift cars, the ones before as pre-facelift.

[QUOTE=mike_D;2575982]I am looking to replace the original cassette radio with this aftermarket unit,
I do not want to cut the car's radio wiring harness, so it would be easy to put the original radio back if needed. Here are my questions:
Is there a wiring harness available to plugs into the car harness that I can wire to this radio ?
the new radio needs to have access to the reverse lights circuit to be able to activate the backup camera function, how do I connect to that ?
Thanks for the help !

I replaced my radio in my 96 XJS 2x2 with the pioneer slide out screen. I also replaced all the speakers with JBLs. Best upgrade ever. The sounds are fantastic. The deck has CarPlay, Alexa, voice command, so rarely need to use the bigger screen unless I’m using navigation. I was also able to change the color lights on the deck to match the green lights on the dash. I didn’t install it, I had a guy who worked on imports who was familiar and comfortable with older vehicles.

I should let you know that the radio will not clear the gear stick while in park. So when i engage the eject I typically engage when the gear is in neutral or drive and typically keep it out. Slide back in when not needed.
The original is still intact so if i ever sell the car which i my thinking about the original radio can easily be reinstalled without issues. I also kept the original look and feel exterior speaker cover grill for the speakers so only changed out the speakers.
Hello all I just saw this thread.I have a 1994 xjs 4.0 facelift. The radio has no power, I have checked the fuse for the radio in the fuse box. Did I miss another fuse somewhere? Also the power ant or cd will not turn on. I think it is all connected to the no power to the radio. Do I need to pull out the radio to look for another fuse behind the radio? Oh I am in Jacksonville Fl. I had the car shipped from miami which was my dad's. only with 34,000 mls. Thanks for any help. Howard
