Well...my radio went south with no power. Checked the million fuses hiding all over in secret places and all were ok. BUT..I could not find the INLINE fuse!! Disassembled the center console completely and only found a few coins but no fuse.
Anyone run into this ?

Yep, radio died. I had to replace mine recently. Same issue as you. I had a spare radio that went into my XJ40 do was able to determine it was the radio and not something else. Get a test light and check for power at the harness, I bet everything is fine. The radio will die in these cars, eventually

 

What a bummer. Radio worked fine when parked and the next morning...eerie silence.
Anyway, I sure would like to find that inline fuse!

 

There isn't one in late model cars. The circuit diagram shows one in the noise suppression box in the harness at the back of the radio, but there isn't one in mine. There's a semiconductor in there after the filter choke, but I couldn't make sense of the markings. There is a fuse in the drivers side fuse panel that provides unswitched power to the radio. Should be fuse 4, 5 amp.

I've checked that one you mentioned and all the others.
When I disassembled the center console I tried to pull the radio out but the cables were too short to fully extend the radio and since everyone said the fuse was in the ctr console I left the radio alone.
Next job....hook up my come a long and rip that radio out!!!

 

It was a long time ago but I recall on my 94 V12, the inline fuse on a pigtail directly on the back of the radio.

Get the radio out and use a test light to check the power feed. No inline fuse to be found.

 

So you're saying there's NO In line fuse?? Prints for my 94 does show one.

 

What "print"? Factory diagrams dont show one.

That's funny. Every thread I've read on this forum refers to the inline fuse as displayed on my factory service manual. So I don't know what you have but I'll have to believe mine.

 

Take a picture of what diagram you are using. I'm using the 1994 Electrical Guide for the XJS 4.0, Publication Number S-72/94 (4.0L).
If the diagram below is the one you are using from the 5 volume service manual, note that the fuses are shown with a box around them. That means they are in a fuse box. An inline fuse doesn't have the box around it.

 

Well, since I'm watching the Rams getting snookered right now and since my paperwork is in the shop I may get to it eventually.
I'm certainly not in this forum to bicker with anyone. You have what you consider the correct papers and I have what I consider correct .

it's zero degrees in my shop. No progress on the jag. I'm not touching it till temp is above 50!!!! I've turned into a wuss in my old age!!

 

still waiting for some decent temperatures before I mess with the jag!!!

 

finally got that sucker fixed. Radio code works, all my preset stations work, all the speakers work too!!!!

 

Why would you say that without telling us what the fault was?

 

Please share your findings. I'm dealing with this issue now. Did you find the inline fuse?
