Default Radio upgrade Pioneer Z7200

Dear all,

I tried to upgrade my 1995 XJS 4.0 with the Pioneer z7200. I bought an aftermarket adapter (XJ

1991-1994) - no adapter for 1995 available, and an antenna splitter for DAB and FM to use the orignal electrical antenna.

When I connect all this I had no sound at all at the speakers and the antenna does not got up when starting the new radio.

I attached a few pictures, can anybody help?

Best regards Stefan

1. eBay has the harness you need.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/29178710512...Bk9SR4bk-pLmZQ
No affiliation with this item in any way.

2. JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource should have the wiring diagrams you need to convert what you have to what you need, assuming the harness has the right amount of wires. You will have to make sure that the pins on the radio match what the wire description says. If not, swap it over. You can do these by repinnning the white harness, or by cutting and spicing.

3. I also find that this the12volt has the stereo information you might need as well. I would doublecheck against the jagrepair diagrams to make sure its accurate? https://www.the12volt.com/installbay...rd/Jaguar.html

Stefan,

I could help you out, if you need someone to mail this to you, but you might be able to fix your problem by working with these other wiring diagrams?

OK. I still think it's possible for you to repin the harness you have so that it lines up with your model year?

As long as the plugs fit, I think it's possible to make it work?

Even the correct harness would not help you with the antenna splitter. On my 1996, the antenna just plugs right into the back of the new radio. It should go up anytime the radio is turned on. I had to wire up a switch in the cubby under the center armrest so it would not go up when I was listening to satellite radio, or MP3. I think I posted my effort on this forum.

...I took another look today, it seems the wiring diagram (attached) does not 100 % fit with the original Plug colors (attached). Also I attached my VIN.

This is my first Jag and I am restoring it more or less completely. Maybe i give the Car audio part to a specialist.
-------
But I have another question as you are a Veteran. When I turn the key into stage 2 (all warning light at Dashboard on) the is a very loud unhealthy humming from the engine compartment. Is that normal such a loud fuel pump for appr. 15 seconds? Or is that some electrical vakuumpump?

Unfortunately we have nearly no specialist for the XJS.

Thanks in advance Stefan

I'm sure any car audio specialist could do this for you, there is nothing unusual or unique about the audio wiring for this car. Perhaps he would need the wiring diagram, but I'd be fairly certain that any car audio specialist would have access to that.

I just went through installing a new radio, not this particular one, but ran into the issues of no sound at the speakers...I wound up just cutting the spliced wire (I used the same style connector to mate with the original) and attaching a speaker to confirm the speaker worked. So one thing I noted is that the speaker working correctly was dependant on the speaker polarity being correct and I don't think the polarity is depicted in the wiring diagram. Also I think it was pin 9 on the original wiring diagram, is not a speaker wire as depicted. I believe it should be pins 7 and 8, not 7 and 9. Yellow/grn was the antenna wire as I recall..something to start with anyway. Also there seems to be two pins for power, pins 10 and 11. I used pin 10 and it powers the radio when the key is in the second position. I didn't use the acc power line and tied it into the power wire. Oh the ground wire had to be connected directly to a new ground point...its not in the harness...If I had the correct pin I would have run it through an unused port on the connector, not sure how you did that on yours. Now with that said, by radio is working good...now where to get replacement speakers that use 120 degree hole spacing?...

Do you really need 120 degree spacing? I found that most speakers have enough holes in them to make it work.

BTW, I was able to upgrade my speakers to 6-1/2" over the stock 5-1/4" speakers.... you may want to search my threads. I can't recall off hand, but I think I recorded the critical dimensions when choosing an upsized speaker.

I'll give it a search next week when I have more time... If I go with a 4 screw type (which most are), There are no tabs in the door to hold the screws...so not sure how that would go. But I'll give it a look as soon as I can...

self tapping sheet metal screws work great. I usually find that 3 screws are enough. There always seems to be three holes that line up.

Stefan,

Apols if this response is too late for your project. I changed my audio some years ago, from the same 1995-era unit that is fitted in your car. There are various id numbers used for the ISO adapter plug that you need. When I purchased mine, it was referred to as a PC2-66-4. I don't know if it is the same as the adapter lead that you have fitted, but maybe you can see the wiring colours from my photos. All of the functions, including aerial control etc worked fine on my new Alpine Unit. A few pics below.

Good luck

Paul

PS the buzzing sound from your engine bay when you turn on the ignition is almost definitely the TEVES brake accumulator pump energising. It will run for 20-45 seconds on ignition on.
