Default Rattle on Start up

Lately i have noticed that when I first start my car, there is a rattling sound that goes on for a few minutes then disappears. The sound appears to be coming from the front of the engine.

I looked through the TSB's and found 12-61 which talks about replacing the upper timing chain tensioner and seems to fit my issue precisely.

Reading the TSB, replacing the tensioner looks relatively straightforward. I'm no mechanic but if anyone has done this, is it pretty easy? Any tips?

Many thanks,

Allan

Thanks Doug, I got lost a bit but realized they were talking about the AJ16 engine. For my AJ6 am I right in assuming the following?

1. Remove fuel pump relay and run engine to depressurize system
2. Do I need to remove the cam cover or the distributor? I'm thinking no the cover but not sure about the dizzy?
3. I remove the long bolt and valve clamp and withdraw the valve. Does it just pull out?
4. Then I insert a 3mm allen wrench into the valve hole and rotate clockwise. Do I do this until I hear a click or until it is tight?
5. I undo the other bolt and pull out the tensioner.
6. I put the O ring on the new tensioner, grease it and make sure the piston is all the way in. Can I do that by just pushing it with my hand?
7. Insert the new tensioner with arrow pointing up (new gasket too) and secure with 2 M8x25 bolts torqued to 22-28Nm (don't need the long bolt or clamp)
8. Use the starter to turn over the engine a few times to pop out the piston
9. Put fuel pump relay back and start car.

It sounds reasonable straightforward but I don't want to **** it up

I'm going to order the parts and hopefully put the new tensioner in next week.

Cheers,

Allan

Gah! I jumped too soon missed the AJ6 versus AJ16 thing. Sorry.

I've never done this task on either so I won't be much help. Let's wait for others to chime in.

Cheers
