I should’ve paid more attention when removing the outer bearings but I can’t recall how far down they were seated. This is how far I could get mine on before it started really fighting me (note the slight gap at the bottom):



And here’s the other hub for reference, there looks to be a little raised bit down by the base but when I feel it with my finger it’s hard to tell if it’s actually raised.
