Rear window removal and reinstall
I have a leak in the bottom right corner of my rear window. At first I tried squeezing some caulk sealant in and it definitely made the lek smaller. Then I remembered that even if I get it sealed up I will have some amount of water still in there and eventually that will cause real problems like rust. So ............. newest project is to pull the rear window out, clean and dry everything, new sealant, and then re-install the window.
Question: What special tips or tricks do I need to be aware of so as to not damage the existing window. Do I need a need window seal? Any other knowledge is appreciated. Thx

I would counsel caution!! It is very hard indeed to get the chrome back into the rubber, I am told, and I highly doubt a decent OEM quality rubber is available, as you will almost certainly ruin the old one.
I recommend buying a tube of bitumastic sealant (the gungy real bitumen-based stuff) and go round the gap between the car body and the chrome strip and fill it up all the way round. Then with your finger push it in all the way round, and then with loads of white spirit on a rag clean up the mess on the paint. You will need to do it once every 7 years or so, but it will fix the leaks.

Jaguar classic can provide OEM seals for front and back. They don’t seem to do large runs of these so they sell out quickly, have to keep checking or ask them to advise when available. I have both front and rear awaiting the day I get the nerve to pull the glass.
This was one of the first things I did o my XJS. I wanted to restore the interior but had to locate the source of a water leak before that. Not a real difficult job. Just time consuming. But then again, what part of working on a Jag isn’t time consuming?
*Sorry for the duplicate photo.
Young59, excellent work! Can I ask where did you order the rear window rubber/gaskets? I used Uro rubber and I swear its a little too small. I did put everything together except the bottom chrome metal because it would not fit back on to the rubber/gasket.
Thanks
Joe
Thanks

It was one of the first things I did when I got the car which means it’s been a couple of years. I believe I got it from SNG Barratt.
