Default Red XJS in Banshee TV show

Featured fairly prominently! It was the bad guy's car

Will see if I can grab some screenshots.

Season 2 Episode 6

Well, sorry fellas - apparently Flickr only takes Jpegs, and my machine saves screenshots as PDFs.

It was an early 80s XJS V12, looked like Sebring Red with Doeskin interior. Must've been pre 85 as I didn't see the third brake light. Starfish wheels.

In one of the night shots from the interior, several of his instrumentation warning lights were on. I nearly choked.

Interior shots are often done with the car not moving. It possibly had the ignition key on, thus why all the instrument lights were on.

That's what I'd like to believe. Chances are bountiful that it was taken care of as a typical Jag. Unless it's a main-stay vehicle in a show, Hollywood isn't known for maintaining automobiles. The simply buy them cheap and use them until they fall apart.

It actually looks a lot like my 88, even where the 3rd brake light is concerned. If you look at one of the shots showing the car from the rear, you will see there is a place on the rear window that is blacked out around where a 3rd brake light should be. The lights ate held in place by velcro tape. In the case of my 88, the tape adhesive no longer sticks to the window, so my 3rd brake light is not in place. That's likely the case with this TV XJS as well.

Upon closer inspection, it's obvious that they are using at least 2 different model year XJSs, because another photo from the rear shows the total absence of the factory masking around the 3rd brake light, while the photo I cited in my earlier post clearly shows the masking.

also, the car is definitely on and moving in the shot with all the lit warning lights.

here's another cool shot (it appears an XJS is exactly the right size to fit under a tractor trailer (but still have a little paint get scraped off)

The director of this episode framed some pretty amazing shots.

Historically, I've seen plenty of car (and aircraft) aberrations from Hollywood. They make movies and that's what they're good at and often they they fail to pay attention to technical details, as wrong as they may show. Besides, the way they film, edit and assemble scenes is precisely what can create these discrepancies. They may need to insert a high speed scene looking out the windshield, which will show part of a dash that happens to be an idling dash, but what percentage of the crowd will notice such discrepancy? Of the women side, perhaps 1% if that many, as most are just not interested in technical details. Of the males side, not all guys are in tune with cars in the manner that we, car nuts, are so 5% to 10% tops, if that much?

I have seen cockpit scenes that are down right amusing for anybody who knows what can an aircraft do and what cannot. But the average woman (my wife being one) would respond "But who cares, it is not important for the plot or the interest of the movie, so get over it already..."(LOL). Not only that, but there is at least one Website that has a collection of movie blunders, where you see stuff like a small parking lot with a few cars in the back of a castle in a movie that takes place in the middle ages...

But I like the XJS featured on "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion". Two very atractive girls (if dumb blondes?) that are going to their class reunion in Arizona and who get their way borrowing "the right car" that will allow them to impress everybody: a light gold color XJS convertible. The car does get nice exposure and it does look impressive, especially with those passengers in it...

The car was definitely moving and usually a moving car means the engine is running. Considering the fact that there was no dialogue in that shot, there's no reason that the engine wouldn't have been running. Maybe the car just had a lot of issues and caused the idiot lights to be on for good reason.

I work in television and we'd have had the car running in that shot if it were on our show.

The only time the cars are not running is when we've wired them to crash into each other and we don't need the engines to get the cars to move. And even then we'd usually have the engines running so it looks real.

Anyway, an idling dash on an XJS wouldn't have any idiot lights on, even if the car were in park. Those only turn on for a second when you first start the car.

Default Idiot Lights

I think its way cool. It shows the Jaguar XJS in its natural habitat.
At least my old XJS.

Here's the Romy & Michelle car again, for reference. A lovely early red convertible. I paid very close attention to those scenes. Of course, the close-up of Romy's lovely thighs might or might not have been another reason....

On a side note, the XJS features extensively in the very silly movie "Speed Zone" - a Cannonball Run wannabe that I watched often solely for the car **** (the Jag ****, really).

I decided I'd been living as a child long enough and wanted to enter adulthood via purchasing my first jaguar a few months ago. I loved the look of the XJS and found this 1986 XJS in Pittsburgh. After the purchase and during the shipping process I learned the owner had worked in the art department of the show Banshee, and last night I decided to look it up on the show, which led me here.
It runs well and is currently in the garage in an effort to become road legal. 53k miles. Not the original paint job, (he said it was white prior). The peeling around the lock on the glove box and the poor red paint on the mufflers confirm its the same. Except he said that had another which was used for the scratched up roof bits.
