Default Removing instrument panel

Can anyone help me, trying to get to the back of the speedometer. How do you remove the instrument panel out of the dash on a 1987 XJS V12? While I'm here how do you get to the damper plate on the floor heat vents? Getting heat through defrost vents but blows extremely cold air on my feet!! Thanks this is my first time here!!

3 screws hold the 2 halves of the surround in place, one on each side you can see then one under that little centerpiece at the top-center of the binnacle. Remove the 2 halves. You may find it easier to loosen or remove the ignition and headlight switchplates to get them out.

Then undo the 2 screws you can see at the top and slide out the warning light cluster (if you can't see screws pop off the little plastic plates on either end of the warning light cluster that LOOK like they are blank-off plates for more warning lights - they are screw covers).

Then undo the 2 screws revealed by doing that and your cluster is free.

Then good luck fiddling the cluster out of the way without removing the steering wheel (which is itself a 5-minute job anyway).

OK, then the message lights will slide out in a row, and then there will be two more screws behind that and that's it.

No problem...I do recommend removing the steering wheel, though, it will be VERY frustrating trying to get the cluster out with it in place. You can undo the grub screw, and the 3 tiny screws that hold the backing plate on and it slides right out, less than 5 minutes.

Shouldn't really be different, maybe I'm describing something incorrectly. What differed from my account?

Either way, glad the job got done!
