replacing instrument panel bulbs
Ok, so the combination of dim lights on the left of the cluster and the completely dark area of the right of the cluster drove me a bit mad so i decided to grab a screwdriver and got at it.
I pulled out the instrument cluster and began pulling bulbs from the backside to see what was causing the issue. I noticed one of the bulbs had a broken filament so I went to the store and just replaced all five so as to not worry about different life spans on the bulbs.
Dropped it back in and nothing! Same issue. Guess I should check the fuse next? Where is the fuse for the cluster located?

The problem is that the bulbs are only 2 or 3 watt, and they have very dark green coloured shades in front of them . These aforesaid shades discolour badly over time and go black with heat from the bulbs.
The shades are best removed (requires a bit more dis-assembly of the unit) and 5 watt push-ins used instead of the 2 or 3 watt ones. Then the light intensity rheostat has a proper purpose and night driving is transformed.
