I have ta say,,, I am so so envious of the/a garage... If it were me I'd be out tinkering well into the late night hours if I could.

Looks like an awesome begining to an awesome adventure.

I'll be watching along!
Peace!

Its a good book, I've read it a couple of times, each time I get something new out of it

PS - don't think you can reserve posts, but hen again - you could edit them, but that would throw some of the flow out

Cheers

It's to edit updates and pics down the road with when certain things I can link to the pages within the thread. Not my first build thread for a vehicle lol.

Yes I've just breezed through the book. Is changing the oil filter as a big of a pita as it looks? Lol

Tomorrow I'm gonna wash the outside and then get it into the garage ...if it fits... then start draining all the fluids I can and put the battery on a charger and see if i can bring it to life. Monday I'll top up fluids and gas.

Am I correct in reading these run on 91 octane? And its 12 liters of oil for an oil change with filter?.

Run it on the highest octane you can get, it is 11.5:1 compression. 91 is generally the minimum. OIl change with filter is usually about 10 litres, may be slightly more. My favourite filters are Wix 51231.

The oil filter points straight up, it can be tricky to get a wrench on it to loosen, but otherwise it's not difficult to get to.

Ok ty. Ya 91 is the highest available around here. Sometimes u can get 94 but nothing locally. Yah Canada. An old guy told me when he would try to start a car that hasnt started in awhile he would fill the thank with the highest octane he could find. Then add fuel stabilizer and a octane booster. Always seemed to work apparently lol.

Depends on where you are. 94 is easy in BC, patchy in Alberta. Octane needs decrease with temperature and elevation, so if you run it in the winter in Banff you need a lot less octane than Toronto in July.

That piece does bolt on, the best thing is to buy one from ebay if no breakers locally. There are lots on there, but not that cheap.

By the way, after about a week the ability to edit a post disappears.

Hello

8 or 10 (?) nuts hold that piece to the boot lid. 2 of them are difficult to get too, as they are right at the edge of the lid (difficult to remove - even more to reinstate).

Before that comes off - the lights above the number plates needs coming off (6 or 8 in total). In mine - fairly easy to get access, but the previous owner made a mess out of them

Also - since she is now home - the below link is what I call a good document on where the XJS rusts and why

The hood struts are shot. I want to grab some replacements but I cant seem to find how many #s they are when it comes to the specs of them. Maybe 50#s? Or closer to 100#s?

bath time.

Also got a better look underneath...its been oiled so it's in really good shape. Most rust on surface are little spots here and there.

Just waiting on a buddy to show up and then I will get it into the garage.

That is how they left the factory. The rears are inboard so not much point.
