IF you can find some standard headlights, you'll be looking at €600/piece. For that price you can buy brand new dual headlights with chrome etc. from SNG... And still have €600 in your pocket

They do not exist new. You might be lucky and get a set from a scrap LHD european model. The only other hope is to ask on the forum if anyone in the USA has a set they do not want, or can recommend a breaker who might have some.

When my car was registered in France, I had to go the dual lamp route as I could not find any.

US light don't have the Euro safety codes molded into them. Could be a problem in Belgium............. Also very rare to find a good pair.
Go for the 4 lamp conversion for the test then switch back to UK lights afterwards.......simples

I agree. Put on 4 lamp system to pass test. Then switch back. I used to put cats over exhaust to pass our air care. (I cut channels across backside to slide over exhaust and clamp). Then I would remove when test was completed.

I would get the US quad headlamp system and then put some European H4 bulbs in them. I purchased some Hella ones, however there are cheaper ones out there. That way you have the best lighting. I did that for my xj6 and put ones designed for left hand drive. I plan to do the same eventually to my xjs.

Sealed beams are illegal in Europe anyway... I was trying to find some LHD ones but will be going US for the time until someday someone makes some new ones...

I like my headlight wash wipe system

You don't have to put sealed beams in the US quad headlight arrangement. They have Euro code headlight bulbs that are 5.75" in diameter. They look like the sealed beams but have a replaceable H4 bulb in the back. The lighting of these Euro Code is also amazing. Much better then you will ever have with the old 2 headlight system. I put the 7" outer and 5.75" inner Euro Code headlight on the xj6 and have amazing lighting. This is a popular thing to do for older cars in the US that had sealed beam bulbs. You just need to make sure you get a good quality brand like Cibie or Hella because you get what you pay for.

What does these "Euro" headlamps look like? I've only see the two styles both here and in England; the older four headlamp style and the new style the facelift cars have.

Anyone have a pic?

DouthernGypdy,

"Euro" headlights is a bit of a misnomer. There are 2 different styles of headlights - the original Jaguar design which is a single ovoid headlight, available in LHD or RHD, and then the twin headlight arrangement that US legislation forced to be fitted to pre-facelift US cars. (There was one limited edition UK pre-facelift model that had twin RHD twin lights) There are also facelift LHD and RHD twin kits available now.

To make it more confusing, pre-facelift and facelift cars are different. So there are:

Pre-facelift:
- RHD ovoid
- LHD ovoid
- RHD twin
- LHD twin

Facelift:
- LHD ovoid US (plastic lens)
- LHD ovoid NON-US
- RHD ovoid (glass lens)
- LHD twin
- RHD twin

Hence the dilemma for Miguel

With the unavailability of new original ovoid lights, that's why there's such a market for twin conversions, Any new ovoids seem to make big money. I have a pair of new US LHD ovoids which I will sell on ebay soon and expect they will sell for good money very easily!

Paul
