Since I decided to do several of the items from The Book with the car in the past few days I’ve done the following…
Replaced the plugs with NGK BR7EF gapped to .025
Performed the distributor mod
Rewired both coils with new plugs (the old ones were toast)
Replaced several of the fuel injector plugs since most had exposed wires, broken plugs, etc
Cleaned the heck out of everything
Got it all back together and on start attempt number one there was no attempt to start and I noticed smoke coming from the right front corner of the engine bay. Stopped everything and turned off the battery to kill power. Then I saw this…
It’s a lot less “melty” since I pulled away some of the wiring sheath.
Anyway I’m assuming during the moving of things and cleaning I must have removed the wiring coating in a few places and now have wires either shorting, rubbing on each other or all the above. I’m assuming the only way forward for this is to rewire these wires at the very least.
Anyone else think of what else could have caused this other than wiring? Unfortunately I’m leaving town so it’ll be a week or longer until I can get back to it.
