So after taking out the instrument cluster and cleaning the contacts the speedo worked great for about a day. Now when I turn the car on the needle doesn't even move off the mechanical stop (as if it is not receiving any power). So next i'm going to open her back up and add an extra Earth wire. Anyone have any recommendations as to where I should connect it on the cluster? Other than the extra earth is there anything else that could be causing it?
Also on the attached photo can anyone tell me what lead I am pointing at with the pencil? It seems to be pretty beat up and half way torn. Thanks for the help!
Ok, no offence, but what did clean the contacts with? Because, if that was mine I'd start again. You need some deoxit or something..unless the picture is not a good representation..those tabs should shine. I had, at one point, an image showing which tabs were grounds but I've put it in a mystery place (it's a mystery to me) so I'll start hunting..

No offense taken, I took that picture when I first pulled it out prior to any cleaning. Thanks for the help hopefully you can find the picture that would be great.
The attached is the pre facelift data, I do not know if the facelifts are different. BUT, the safest way is to look at the plug that goes into the binnacle and determine the loom wire colour, then look up on a wiring diagram what this is. Alternatively, and probably more certainly, with a pencil, follow the copper on the blue circuit thingy from the plug and see where it ends up.
