Default Steering rack

Hi all.
Todays question....
I need to fix/replace my steering rack. It has the pow-a-rack with the part number cbc 6709. This number is nowhere to be seen on any Jag parts searches ??

Looks like everything supersedes to a single number. However, just about everything from the XJS and Series III sedans is interchangeable. Apparently the latest rack made by ZF as used on the 6.0 cars is the best for feel.

This is the standard Adwest rack used by Jaguar right up to the early 1990s. any rack rebuilder can rebuild it. Also, as Jagboi says, any XJS rack will fit, but the pipes will be different.

Thanks Greg.
My car is a very early facelift with some older parts bin bits. My worry on getting the new rack are... correct amount of splines, male or female pipe fittings and track rod lengths.
So thinking getting mine redone would be better.

There are threads on this including some very recent ones. I've suggested Maval in Ohio, Greg in France suggested another rebuilder.

As the owner of a 92 facelift I can validate your concerns as I've discovered all kinds of weirdness about my car. ignition switches, fuel level senders etc

Hmmm, l just read on the xj6 and 12 forum that the rack is the same as fitted to the Triumph Stag... Is that for the XJS too ?
