Default Steering Rack Question

Hey everyone. Been off the forum for a while as the Jag's been stored up and I've been having too much fun with my Triumph Bonnie to get back into it. However given the "quarantine" and all of the time at home it's afforded I went ahead and dropped the front suspension subframe on my '86 xjs for a full rebuild/ refresh.

The steering rack has some slack in it and it might be leaking (the whole subframe is covered in so much oil it's hard to tell) so I'm thinking about replacing it since it'll never be easier than it would be now.

I'm seeing a huge price discrepancy online for steering racks. For price comparison I'm going to list all the prices after the core credit. Jagbits.com has one listed for $600 (unspecified brand), while Autozone and Oreilly's have an "Atlantic Automotive" unit for $435. NAPA Auto Parts has a NAPA brand one for $253. Partsgeek.com has a "Maval" brand one for $281.

Does anyone have experience with any of these suppliers' rebuilt steering racks? I've had bad luck with so called "rebuilt" parts for Jags but since rebuilt is the only option here any firsthand advice would be much appreciated. Maybe someone knows of a supplier I haven't found yet!

Cheers

Default Jagbits steering racks

We have used the same independent re-builder for many years and our racks have an amazingly low almost non-existent defective rate. Our racks will last many years as long as the steering system is thoroughly flushed out before installing our rack. This is the key to a replacement steering rack not failing prematurely. I just lowered our sell price to $399.95 plus a $200 refundable core deposit, free shipping anywhere in the 48 states:

I've had good luck with Maval.

I've had good luck with anything rebuilt by Coventry West.

I've only heard good things about Jagbits so I'm sure Gary is selling good stuff

Replace the hoses as well....which you were probably planning on

Cheers
