Default Still XJS shopping... what is this, please?

Still hunting a nice XJS; have started to look at convertibles since they're much more plentiful nearby. I noticed this on several of the ragtops in varying degrees - the lower trailing edges of the doors don't fit well. No sign of other body damage whatsoever. Can someone please explain what's causing this and whether it's fixable? Thanks very much!

In my searching we came across an incredibly nice Dorchester '87 XJ6 and couldn't resist adding that to the collection. I also rescued a barn-find XJ12C that will require a serious effort. Intro and photos pending. So, two Jags in the garage already and still shopping for my 'first' one... Hmmm...

XJS doors are long and heavy. They droop with time but can be refitted.

Sometimes the top hinge pin tends to work its way up. Use a drift wrapped in a cloth or similar where it passes between dor and body and gently knock it down again.

As stated, door sags over time. Can usually be fixed with minor adjustment.

Hess & Eisenhardt used to literally have the fattest guy in the factory come and sit on the end of the door to get it to sag, then adjust, and then repeat until it was flush after the 'fat guy' check.

Cheers,

In North Carolina I have a 1991 XJS coupe than runs out great, i drive it fairly regularly just to keep it running right, you can see pics in my garage. Car interior is a 7, body is an 8 or 9. A/C works great, heat doesn't respond to controls, otherwise everything works properly. No rust I can find anywhere. I don't have time to maintain both cars so, If you are interested, give me a call and we will work something out. Glenn 910 790 7988
