Hello experts - recently acquired a 1995 XJS V12 Convertible. Does anyone have a list of the proper original badges? I have a “V12”badge under the leader on the right side, but just the leader on the left. I think the boot badges are correct, just need new ones or get the originals re-chromed (or whatever they do to plastic). I assume in ‘95 these are all on with adhesive rather than pins, but let me know. Thanks in advance!
Very confusing as the Jaguar literature for 1995 US shows the V12 badges under the leapers on the sides of the car, but they are not listed or shown on the parts diagram.
At one time I found a complete description of the various XJS badges/emblems, including the different colors of the hood medallion and wheel caps which varied by 6 & 12 cylinder and sometimes country. I curse myself for not saving it at the time and hope to find it again.
What do you mean by the leader?
I have seen aftermarket boot badges on eBay occasionally.
There are chrome shops that re-plate plastic.
Not all use the proper method of pre-plating with copper then Nichol.
That was supposed to say “leaper” but it got autocorrected… On the V12 there is a Leaper on a black background on each fender with a “V12” emblem below it. I can’t find these anywhere, even aftermarket and I’m wondering if 3D printing is the answer. The rest are on the car, but I’ll need to remove them and get them plated so they look like new.
As mentioned, it's only for cars that were destined to be sent to North America that have the leapers (and V12 badges). The cars were designed to just have a side indicator mounted there (the side orange elements in the bumpers are just reflectors) - no leaper or V12 badge on the side. The North American-destined cars have the leaper badge mounted in the indicator light position. See my AJ16 4 litre below.
As regards getting yours "plated", you might want to try an easier route of either masking and spraying with "chrome paint". Or even using the modern "chrome" self-adhesive tape. It's worth a try. I presume that actual chroming of a plastic badge isn't actually possible?
