Default Strange ignition coil connector

Both JayJagJay and I have installed new ignition coils. The new ones have a center pin, with no circumferential brass connector.

Has anyone else found this?

I recently ordered and installed the NGK coils, they were identical to originals (including being made in Italy). I would think that getting the correct coils would be better than having to craft an adapter or new type of HT lead given how particular the Marelli system is to being on spec. The NGKs were very reasonably priced on RockAuto.

Ok, searching on the RockAuto site, I see no NGKs.

Interesting. I just looked it up the NGK part number 48638 and RockAuto now says is "Out of stock". Sorry about that.

It looks like it can ordered directly from NGK:

Hey Scott. I PMd you and I'm sorry it was late. Literally wrestling (and getting an *** kicking) with the rear end of an 02 XK8. No no no fun

I a set of United Motor Products coils and if I remember there was some references to Marelli and it's make. I got a set to find that, like yours, pin/post clips down in the coil barrel connection site...

I pondered and didn't even know where to begin in ordering two short 7inch pin/post clip coil HT leads. I called the coil producer and to my surprise the owner was very happy to hear from me, discovered the mismatch between the designs, didn't know that his units wouldn't be a direct design match to the barrel (outside contact barrel point design) and his pin/post type HT leads. He was grateful and said he would change this with Rock.

Anyways, the guy made me up 2 leads for free and shipped them rushed. Clipped right in and on the ROAD AGAIN...

These folks.

JayJagJay,

I corresponded with Rick at United. He claims the coils with the pins were never sold in the states. I sent a pic of the coil pin connectors. No word back from him.

At this point, I guess the United coils are a no-go for anyone here. I hate to buy a new set of NGKs, but I don't see another option.

I don't know where to buy the pin connectors to attach to my existing leads. I was hoping they were similar to the Behr's like used on my S600, but they are not.

Cheers

Scott
Someone can make you a set of leads with the correct connectors. Even googling HT lead connectors will find you something, I am certain.
