Default Sunvisor clips ?

Ok so when I got my jag, both of the sunvisor clips were broken, no problem thinks I, and $20 later I have two new ones installed. However after driving a total of 24, yup 24 miles, both of the new ones have broken off ! The new ones I bought came in Jaguar packaging, so I guess they are original items.
Is there some trick to installing them, or have I just been unlucky, and should go ahead and buy 2 more ?
I'm thinking maybe on old stock, the plastic has become brittle, and that's why they broke so quickly, anyone have comments, or a solution ?

You're not unlucky - they just don't last long. Glue the broken part back into postion and fill the clip with epoxy. I've found this works as a cheap repair for these clips that continually break.

I had the same problem with my '96 XJS. When I got the new clips I noticed that they are hollow inside, which looked pretty weak to me. So I filled the hollow insides of the new clips with epoxy putty (also known as Marine putty) before installing them and they haven't broken again.

I had the same problem with mine as well. I inserted washers into the hole and they have lasted for two years and still going.

For some reason I recall finding square washers that were almost a perfect fit at my local hardware store.

Seems like there are a lot solutions to this problem...funny how Jaguar found none of them.

I bought OEM replacements and noticed the very tight fit with bar and clip right away, before installing, so I opened them up a little bit with my fingers before screwing them in. The visor bar goes in and out like it should. 6 months so far and no problems.

I've had the same problem, bought another one fitted it and it broke again. Gorilla glue and open the front gap up a bit by using a file and positioning while the glue sets using suitable size rod.

A common problem this.

I bent a piece of 1mm steel in a U shape that fit inside the clip, fixed it in the clip with rivets and then screwed it back in never broken again.

I bought new ones and just didn't tighten them that much. Just barely "snug". Then my sun visors were stuck so I just went blind rather than risking breaking another set. :-)

Dammit! My clip broke again. It did last awhile.

I'm sorry to resuscitate this old thread. Is everyone still going strong with the epoxy route?

Should I rough up the inside surface? Better to use the putty over the two-part liquid?
