Default Surge tank seal

Hi all, I need to replace the round rubber seal on the surge tank where the fuel outlet pipe comes through. Think this may be the cause of my fuel smell. Well pointed out Greg! Anyhow, is it possible to replace this without draining the surge tank and without removing it? Many thanks in advance

You have to drain the tank to change the seal, as the tank is gravity fed from the main tank, you have no option. In theory you could pinch the 1/2 inch feed hose from the main tank, but the risk of damaging it by trying is far too high, and they are NLA.
As long as you can get to the drain plug, and the main tank is low, it is not too arduous.
I have long thought about a tap inserted into the feed from the main tank, which would be great, but I have never found one that did not leak, or look as if it would.

as above

i have NOS seals here in UK as i had to buy a pack of 5 from jaguar ,

i would also take the opportunity to clean out the swirl pot and ensure the gauze filter on the end of the pickup tube is in good order and replace the inline fuel filter to the engine
