For starters, I am completely new to jaguars. I have 2 questions.
1. Where is the tank selector switch on a 1988 XJS?
2. Has anyone done a fuel cell swap on these and where did you find the fuel cell?
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJS forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Well, the XJ-S only has one fuel tank, so there is no tank selector switch. The XJ-6 and XJ-12 sedans had two tanks, I think the switch is in the center console, but its been a long time since I looked at one.
I have seen fuel cell conversions, I imagine they came from the standard performance part suppliers; Summit Racing, Jegs, etc. but I haven't investigated it too much as to what is best.

What is wrong with your tank?
Are the V12 XJS and the XJ-12 the same car?
It is a customer's car, hence why I am completely new to Jags. The tank has the same common problem that I keep seeing pop up on here. Water in the tank. I am trying to figure out if it is cheaper and more reliable to install a fuel cell as compared to fixing the tanks that are there.
I will have to check on jegs and summit. Thanks for the suggestions!
The XJ12 is a 4 door sedan. The XJS is a 2 door, either fixed roof or soft roof.
Cheers
DD
Ok. Thanks for the clarification. I am certainly confused by this fuel system. I am trying to gather as much information and knowledge as I can before I actually dive into it.

An XJSC is an XJS but fitted with the cabriolet roof structure. The fuel system is standard XJS:
Main tank feeds
sump tank under battery (it has a filter inside accessible by removing the locking ring (remove metal cover to access) feeds
fuel pump (also under the metal cover) feeds
fuel filter (behind spare wheel) feeds
fuel rail via under car pipe feeds
return to tank via under car pipe.
There are two FPRs, the one on the rail supply side (RHS of engine called A bank) can be removed as it does not so anything. The one on the LHS, just downstream of the fuel rail, controls pressure.

Jaguar specifications always have significant changes over the production cycle but the XJS, with more than twenty years in production, has more than most. As can be seen from JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue), the fuel tank alone has many differences depending on VIN:
As there already appears to be some uncertainly about the likely specification of the vehicle you have in for repair, posting the VIN could be useful.
If it's a 1988 car and the rear badge says "XJ-SC" then it's a "Cabriolet" with rigid rear side window frames and a permanent T-bar roof.
If the rear badge says "XJ-S" then it will be a "Convertible" (or Coupe)
As mentioned, all XJSs have one fuel tank. A 1988 car will have a swirl pot under the fuel tank in the boot (trunk).
Perhaps post some pictures here and members may be able to give some advice.
