Default Theoretical question for sore muscles Pinch Bolt Installation on Rack

OK, so nobody remembers me, but I resurrected an '89 XJS convertible out of a field where it sat for 4 years. I just finished replacing the high pressure power steering hose, and, a low one while I was in there. Did it on a lift, with a friend, full assortment of Snap On tools. His tools and lift. It took 2 evenings, and, we are both sore, and cannot look at the car yet, kinda like a 2 night stand. Wait, I still want to go and hook up the alternator wiring...Well, it was a success, here are some tips.....HELP...OUCH.... Anyway, we just dropped the rack, didn't take it out. Here is my question, FINALLY. How would you get the pinch bolt back in, if you dropped the rack??????? I can't get my fingers near it! Take the oil filter out? PLEASE don't say to remove the exhaust pipe, we looked at that and threw up. Anyone?

I drove the car around the block for the first time. Why doesn't everyone drive a V12?

Yes, V12s glad you are bringing it back to life. I think I have a leak in one of those hoses. So are you telling me that they are unusually hard to change or just as hard to do as every thing else on the car is to work on?

You've gotta at least loosen the rack by taking out the 3 rack bolts. Watch out for shims! Then, the rack will roll down and you can reach the hi and low pressure fittings. You must take out the low pressure fitting to reach the hi. The problem is getting the fittings hand threaded to start them. There is very little room. The hi pressure went right in, we couldn't get the low in for hours. Finally, I cut the fitting, screwed it in, then pushed a well greased new hose with a loose clamp over the fitting, it went on easily, then screwed the clamp tight with a 3 foot screwdriver. Putting the rack back was a trans jack and 2 man job. It all goes easier with 2 people. Total of 5 1/2 hours, 2 1/2 of which were spent trying to hand start the low pressure hose. It's doable, good luck.
