Thermostats
I am getting ready to flush my cooling system and am curious if anyone has a source and part # handy for thermostats. Also, is there a listing of commonly used, tried and true, aftermarket parts and the associated numbers. I have read so many pages of information on here, jag lovers and the kirby bible that I can't remember what I've seen and where. I also belong to a couple of other forums for other vehicles which adds to the confusion. Just curious and it is also very likely that if a list exists I missed it along the way......I apologize if I've missed something very obvious.
Replaced mine about a decade ago. I can't offer any real advice other than reference Kirby's book (starts on page 204 of the latest version).
FWIW I installed 180F thermostats and now wish I'd just stuck with 190F...

I got mine from local Jaguar parts guy, just make sure they have 1/8" holes in them. There is debate over going lower temperature, but this only slows the warm up, it will NOT prevent a car from overheating.

When you get your new ones and you test them, YES, you should test them, new does not always mean its right, duds happen.
Also ensure that when they are FULLY open they are 43mm long, disc to disc. I have had many here, Jaguar supplied, that were too short. The by-pass port on the V12 is 41mm from the mounting flange, so if they only open to 39mm length, as I had, then the port is NOT being shut off, and the V12 will ALWAYS overheat. I found this when I was the Parts Manager for Jaguar, and I was unable to get anyone to take note.
The ones I use are Ford Falcon (Aussie car) 1988 on vintage. The Tridon part number is TT228-180, and have been in all my V12's for maaaaaany years, and none run hot ever. The Dayco number is DT14?. The ? is an alpha symbol for 180 (82c), and I forget what it is, bugga.

measure the stats but you can get them at a local store. I got mine from autozone and they shared use with a chevy.
They were significantly shorter than the ones I had in my car which both didnt work at all. I was wary of them but they work perfectly and I think the old ones were too big because they never ever worked.

Ummmmm....don't be so sure. What part number did you get? Does it have the right bypass disc?

lol yes they do. Im very sure since the car has been running totally fine for 9 months now. If i put the old ones in I could actually feel them tapping at the back end where they are supposed to seal. This is wrong because the thermostat is supposed to open and seal those passageways off . If its already touching then they are always shut off which is why the car was overheating...
