A couple years ago I went through 3 of the new "Bournes style" TPS and they were all crap out of the box. All 3 had more "blank spots" across their travel on the multimeter than the 30 year old one that came out of the car. None would consistently return to the same value at idle either. The new "Bournes style" are about half the weight of the original, clearly of poor quality, and I would caution anyone away from wasting their time on them.

The OP on this thread was my father and we both had much better luck with the red TPS in our Jags. Unfortunately the kit to adapt these units to older pedestals has been NLA for some time now. Great tip on using the old TPS as an adaptor for the new one. Will certainly use in the future. Thanks for sharing.

And I've had two of the red style fail in as many years; maybe less, actually. These being the brand-x replacements that Jaguar now sells.....not the Lucas originals

So I've been back on the Mustang type for a while now

Maybe one day I'll research other choices

Cheers

I figured it out. I just cut open the original tps

So inital setup shows .329 volt and top end at 4.66 which is consistent from what I've read.

So now I need to decide if I should open up the new tps and shave off that spot to get it up to 5.0v or should i just leave it?

Opinions on those who have left it?
