So, I'm making preparations to pull the engine to address a host of things. However, I noticed that the distributor shaft has significantly more play in it than I would expect to be "normal". Am I wrong? If this amount of play isn't normal,is there a bushing that's likely gone, and does anyone know the part number and/or a source?

Seems excessive to me. Not sure where you might find bushings. I'm sure they're out there somewhere; probably have to order by specification rather than application.

Might be a lot easier to source a good used dizzy
