Default tranny oil change

hi all . im planning on changing the transmission oil and filter in my3.6 1987 xjs tomorrow. ive read about removing the dipstick and dropping the sump but having a quick look today it looks as if there is a drain plug. is this rare or was it a standard thing that I just haven't seen mentioned? many thanks

If you have a drain plug then that will make the job less messy. Easy to drain the old fluid into a pan.

But you will still need to remove the sump pan to replace the filter.

Some did, some did not.

One of mine did, the other 3, incluing the X300, nope.

Yours would possibly be a very early build date.
