Hi my very well cared for 03 str with 76k miles tranny slips when I hit the gas hard. code says it needs a transmission range select sensor. Now when I drive normal everything is fine only when I really put the pedal to the metal. Does any know if a bad sensor can cause this? I thought maybe the fluid was low so I changed it and it was good and very clean with no burn smell. Thanks so much in advance for and input you guys can give me!!

Are the 2 bolts for the shifter cable on the trans side loose / missing?

I'm just having trouble understanding how that sensor would make the tranny slip and only does it when I really get on the gas. Of corse these things always happen at the worse time and I don't wanna waste $1000 and then find out I need tranny to. But I'm having a really hard time believing that the tranny is bad. It was serviced at 60k and now at 76k and the fluid that came out looked great super clean no smell nothing.

Remember that the transmission in that car shifts electrically. The shifter is moved to the “D” position by cable on the left side of the trans mechanically threw to the other side of the trans to the shifter selector switch that sends a signal to the transmission control module (TCM). If your shifter cable is out of adjustment it may cause a shifting problem. Now the TCM sends a signal to the shifting valve body inside the trans with input from the engine control module. All of this stuff must be in sync! First check you shifter cable for proper adjustment.
