Default Transmission question

I have a 95 XJS and I been having a transmission problem. When driving normally and stopping in Drive, I hear a click in the transmission, however, if I bring the car to a stop while having the gear selector in number 3 position, I hear nothing. It this a serious transmission problem?

Anyone have good mechanic in / around Philadelphia.

It could be the gear selector linkage being slightly out of adjustment.
Take the gear quadrant off and have a poke around.

It would help if you added the model details to your signature. There were 2 different 4 speed automatic transmissions used depending on I6 or V12.
