I'm doing a project of swapping a 1995 XJR 6 cylinder engine into my Daimler DS420 limo and I wanted a trip computer, The XJR one is integrated into the speedometer cluster, so not easy to use.

Then I was thinking that the 95-96 XJS used the AJ16 engine, so should talk to the XJR ECU and give proper numbers. Can anyone confirm that the trip computer will work with a 95-96 AJ16 engine? Is it the same part number as the V12 computer?

The parts listings on Jaguar Heritage are particularly unhelpful. Says no trip computer after VIN 190527, but I have a 94 V12 with trip computer. I also have the Technical Guide for 1995 that says the trip computer was optional on the 4.0 for all markets except US in 1995, not available in USA & Taiwan in 1995-6.

I have been through the Electrical Guides for both cars, and there isn't enough detail in the signal description for me to determine if the inputs to the trip computers are the same between the XJR and XJS.

 

I have used the XJS trip computer on two of my AJ16 engined XJS'. No issue.
