Default Jaguar XJR ECU compatibility

Hi, does anyone know if a US/Canadian market XJR ECU will work with a UK / Australian market XJR. Is there also a difference between early model and late model ECU's? I'm thinking of picking up a used spare to keep as a backup unit. Thanks.

The ECU is bound to the VIN. The remaining modules are bound the ECU. It's pretty complex. Can it be programmed? Maybe, maybe not. You may want to contact an authorized dealer to investigate your options here.

Hmmm.....thanks... I was afraid that might be the case, but I suppose if ever anything happened to my original ECU, I would have to do that anyway for the replacement.

I have a spare, and if you have a proper Mongoose cable, you can reflash it to align with you vin and security system, you have to be very keen though, and they hardly ever fail.

Ask yourself if you're prepared to put the effort in to get compatible PCM and Mongoose + IDS/SDD, because you WILL have to reprogram and it MUST be a suitable PCM.

Hahahaha.... I suppose I'm tainted by my back-up every other day car that I'm fully restoring, a 1992 Mitsubishi GTO VR4 and I've got spares for everything for that, including 3 spare ECU's. At least for that I don't need to reprogramme the ECU's, just fit and forget.

Yup, definitely. Very few tuner parts. Over here, I'm told no one wants to steal a Jag as the crooks don't know what to do with it, unlike the BMW's and Benz's

The only difference I remember is gen.I (non-AVCS) and gen.II for AVCS engines. ECU boxes are physically different as well as harnesses required. Keep it in mind.
