trunk lock
anyone have any ideas on how to get into trunk on a 1984 xjs i have no key and was told no access through back seat.can you get though from licence plate mounting hole??
About a year and a half ago I got locked out of my trunk and front due to a malfunctioning lock module. After getting access to the trunk I disconnected the lock module. The key will lock and unlock the trunk but I don't bother doing so. Few people are familiar with the XJS trunk lid latch and I don't put valuable things in the trunk anyway. I was charged $50 by Pop-a-Lock to get into the car. That won't happen again. I seldom even lock it but do have a hidden ignition cut-off switch. There are only 4 or 5 XJS in my city. Steal one and you wouldn't be hard to find. lol

I had the same thing except the link had pulled off the handle, I drilled a
in the centre under the licence plate and it was easy but I cant remember
what made it easy, it wasn't hard once I could grab the rod. ignore the black area the hole in in the middle

The hole near the center will do the trick. My car has a 1/2" hole drilled a little right of center of the tag mount, and it is perfect for sticking in a screwdriver, and prying up on the release mechanism.
ok great, thanks for info.one question.,so if i drill hole exactly in middle behind license plate i will see acuator rod from lock cylinder? does it run vertical or horizontal?is 1/4 " hole big enough?
so if i drill a hole aprox 1/2" in diam.to the right of the top left tag mount hole i will see the rod that runs from lock cylinder to latch? so it runs vertically from lock cyln how do i detach it from lock or do i have to?

I would be more than happy to send you a pic, its just that I'm not sure how. Can you direct me? I took a pic with my phone, but not sure how I get it on here. The actuator rod from the handle to the trunk release mechanism is defininately verticle, and can be seen clearly when looking at the hole in my trunk lid. The pic doesn't show that, a the flash of the camera distorts looking in the hole.
Anyone have any leads as to where I can find a complete replacement lock cylinder set up for an 89 XJS? This SNG Barratt group doesn't have it even though they claim they do. Looked on E-Bay and found a set out of a 95, wasn't sure if I could use those or not.
