Hi everybody,
I am evaluating to purchase a 1984 xjs. I asked the seller to send me a photo of the engine number and he sent me the image that I attach.
There are two numbers:
7P58775HAZ
8S59579HAZ
I think the engine number is the 8S59579HAZ. So, what is the number 7P58775HAZ?
I want to make a enquire to Jaguar Heritage to ask if it is the original engine.
Thank you all
I made an enquiry to Jaguar Heritage. Here is the answer:[...]Engine numbers normally start 8S which is what is shown in the build information, but the engine number you are quoting 8S 59579 HAZ does not match with the build ledger.[...]
I noticed that there is also the MR88 code. Could it mean Motor Replacement 1988? Was it customary to mark the replacement on the engine? The car has Dutch papers.

Good chance of that being the case.
It did not occur to me until you mentioned it but my '89 has engine number 8S 65xxx. Makes your number way too late for an '84, much closer to '88 as you suggest.
