Default Valve covers

Is there any way to change the valve cover gaskets without taking the intake manifold and fuel rail off?

Engine and model year might help answer your question.

You might want to add a signature so you don't have to remember in the future.

Nope!

But it really isn't all that bad if you just work slowly and methodically.

Cheers

Default Removal

thx Doug
I read through the steps in the manual and it seems like a massive job. Depressurization of the fuel system and so many parts to take off. Concerned I won’t get it back together properly and “knock on wood” it’s running perfectly right now. I just have a bad leak .......

DD is correct. As long as you take pictures or notes on how you take the fuel rails and vacuum lines apart, it is not that complicated. Even I figured it out.

Not that bad as others have indicated;
  1. remove air filters and metal outer trumpets
  2. carefully unscrew the fuel pressure regulator and cover with a rag as the fuel pressure subsides
  3. undo the fuel pipes from both regulators (time so far 30 mins)
  4. pull off/undo all the vac pipes from the manifolds and LABEL them carefully (total time so far 45 minutes + or -)
  5. disconnect any other wires attached to the manifold and label CAREFULLY (eg full throttle vac switch, air solenoid, both on A bank manifold)
  6. pull off the throttle capstan rods from the capstan (total time so far 60 minutes)
  7. undo the vac tube to the ECU from the rear crosspipe between the manifolds
  8. pull of the vent tube from the dizzy top
  9. disconnect the AAV tube that goes to the B bank manifold cabin end (total time 90 mins)
  10. disconnect the crankcase breather pipe from the front end of the B bank manifold
  11. disconnect the cruise control throttle wire, the capstan throttle wire from the capstan and the kickdown switch wires (total time 120 minutes)
  12. disconnect the injector loom (harness) connections at the RHS inner wing and free off the loom from any fixings
  13. then carefully undo the 24 nuts that hold down the manifolds to the studs in the heads. They are 7/16ths A/F spanner size and a 1/4 inch drive socket with a foot long extension is the easiest way. have a magnet on a stick to pick up the many washers and nuts you will drop. (total time 180 minutes)
  14. with a friend, one each side, pull up the entire assembly, manifolds, injection rails, and carry it off to a clean area with cardboard underneath (total time 190 minutes). Disconnect anything I have forgotten to list!
  15. IMMEDIATELY block up the 12 intake holes into the engine with thick rags.
You will need new intake manifold gaskets, and the modern gortex genuine Jaguar cam cover gaskets, and new half moon seals.
Greg

Best way to depressurize the system is to pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine and let it run until it cuts out... No fuel pressure: no running engine.
