Full transmission overhaul kit arrived yesterday -finally! Looking forward to doing this puzzle :)

Just need a few random parts still as the kit, supposedly a 'luxury kit' containing 'everything required', lacks a few bushes and bearings (torrington bearing to be precise).

Do Not replace the ALT light with LED or it will not function as designed. The ALT light is designed to function with dual polarity either side if the globe + depending if the fault is alternator or battery a LED is polarity sensitve.

Today (Thanks Grant F) I finally (i think) completed the job of completely undoing all throttle linkage (again, lol) and doing it up right! Pedal is responsive, idle seems right, things are good and I LOOOOVE driving this machine... Its like something is right in the world, haha...

Thank you all for offering you guidance and experience... Still, a waaaays to go!https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...4c53ed8dee.jpg

Muffler removal

Hi,

I removed the mufflers/resonators(?) in front of the rear end and replaced them with straight pipes. After cutting I was able to run the 12 directly off the cats...awesome!, but LOUD. Ran the connector pipes back to the rear muffler/resonators and it really quieted it down. After driving, with no droning, I think I’ll go to step 2 and replace the rears with a couple of Magnaflows as the sound was not very loud. I’m looking for the right sound and think I’m close. 👂

Really well done JJJ, I think you have showed grit, determination and courage. And these cars are just sublime when they are right, as you are discovering!

Maaaan, thank you GF... Means a lot to hear ya say that! Really!

I have a few new directions I'm going to need to be headed in I think. May start a new thread - or BUG YA off line. Maybe BOTH, lol... I have some questions about the SOUND of the transmission while driving. Sound is a very difficult thing to translate into usable ideas on line, but yeah,,, I have a few questions. No problems necessarily (shifts thru gears and downshifts smoothly and at about the right time, I think) - I'm just curious about the SOUND of a well working tyranny on an XJS - In down under language :) Sound wise,,, I try to keep in mind I am running with bare metal floor pans (for a little while longer) and still not completely tarred and feathered (sealed up)... No rugs, etc...

I want new exhaust front to back, both sides. Nothing loud or sporty,,, I dont think.

Sublime IS the right word. It so is... I feel like I am betraying my 2002 XK8 by saying this but its a much much much nicer ride, already. I'm trilled to be own her. Never in my imagination did I see myself as owner of an XJS,,, never-mind getting to know one (slowly) front to back!

Thanks Grant,,, All :)

transmission sound

There is a spring, and rubber isolators in the transmission mount. Very unlike any car I've ever replaced transmission mount on. Its quite possible that the spring and isolators are bad, allowing normal drivetrain noise to be carried into the body.

Once the carpets and soundproofing felt go back in the noise will go. Worry not.

Got my new TH400 oil pan/sump today... Sold as a 'deep' pan. Was a normal shallow one. Not working on the XJ-S TH400... So back it goes...

2 months in the shop after my Marelli Ignition caused fire...she's back and running like new. 4 new catalytic converters, and a laundry list of ignition parts replaced. Thank you State Farm Insurance for not totaling it!

Bought some brand new AC hoses for the engine bay. Why cheap out on some rubber hoses, when they only cost €25-30/piece? So, new rubber coming. I can also then fit the fuel cooler and move on a little bit.
