I have a 93 XJS and looking at the interior I was wondering if the seats are all leather or is it just the facings? Some of the vinyls that are used look just like leather. Is the rest of the interior vinyl or is leather used elsewhere?

I believe the 4 liter cars had some vinyl. The V12's do not, and I don't think there are any 93 v12's...

Thie is something that varied over the years depending on market, model year, engine size, etc. I can't begin to keep all the details straight.

My '88 V12 was all leather: entire seats, console, door panels, etc

Cheers

V12's were available until 94 or 95, (71 built the last year), but in 93 or 94 we began to see some vinyl with leather facings. And some vinyl trim work.

In my ’95 4.0 the only leather used is in the seat facings, everything else is vinyl.
I much prefer the leather. The interior of my ’83 was 100% leather and really looked so much nicer.
IMO that is the problem; the vinyl is a much stronger, more stable material than leather. The leather is shrinking with age, the vinyl isn’t and the different materials are pulling apart at the stitching at the seams. My front seats are really starting to look like h**l.
I am planning on redoing my entire interior this coming winter – new 100% leather, carpet and wood. I did quite a lot of wood work and leather work when I was young and I’m going to put those skills to work redoing the interior of my car this winter.

In my 95, the front seats are all ambla (fake) except for the face of the headrest panels, and the storage pockets. On the miniature rear seats almost all the panels are leather. I too am redoing the interior in all leather, as a matter of fact I already bought the hides, it's just ridiculously expensive to have them fitted in my area, so I am saving up.

I will buy the "hide" make patterns and cut and sew myself. To be sure it's a lot of work, but what's the alternative - watch TeeVee and consume adult beverages...?

Roger, take some pictures of your work. I can't fit my new leather seats myself, much less make them!!. That sounds like a very interesting project!

Hey Spikepaga, i just had my fronts done in Houston,
(pics in the gallery) and he charged me $500.They came out pretty good, let me know if you want his details. i had one place quote me $750, and 'maybe more depending on the seat construction'
All in all I didn't think it was too bad. I did take just the seats in to him, so he didn't have any dismantling to do.

Thanks for the info. I got the new front seats in barley and my car is cream, so I am needing to have the front seats fitted and everything else dyed from cream to barley to match. I am getting quoted over 2k for everything.

Please PM me the details of your trim shop.

Thanks for the replys. My 93 XJS has the 4.0, the reason I asked the question was to make sure I was using the right cleaners and conditioners, you probably don't want to use vinyl treatment on leather and vice versa. This is my first Jaguar, I did not know the older V12 XJS had an all leather interior.

"Roger, take some pictures of your work"

I will. I'd like to document the entire project...

Just for clarity, when you say facings do you mean the center section of the seat or do you mean the center section plus the side bolsters?
