What is Purple Antifreeze?
Hi Guys
I just picked up some Antifreeze as well as other Stuff, which is on my 'Cherry Blossom' Restoration Thread including Photo.
I bought 25L of Blue Anti Freeze (Click and Collect) from a Well known Motor Factor and it even said BLUE on the Invoice.
But when I got home and Checked the Label, it said PURPLE ANTIFREEZE!
I've never ever heard of PURPLE ANTIFREEZE before.
Apparently it Contains: Methanol-Nitrile Amine Phosphate.
Silicate and Borate Free.
What is this Stuff, If I have to take it back they can pay my Petrol.
Any Ideas?

I have no idea but I've always used the Blue Stuff.
Since I've still got the empty Can from last year, I can compare the active ingredients and see if its any different.
But this Purple Antifreeze does say 5 year protection, so maybe it could be better?

In North America there are 2 versions of purple used by Chrysler. 5 year and 10 year life. It was introduced for the 2013 model year. Don't mix it with another kind.
See this article about it: http://articles.sae.org/11284/

Hi Guys
I ordered BLUE Antifreeze and that's what is says on the Invoice because I wanted an Ethanol Based Antifreeze.
Even checking it out with Greg when I bought some last year from the same place.
Unfortunately I didn't check the Label (I mean why would I even want to)
As it turns out the BLUE Antifreeze contains Ethanol (which is what I wanted)
But the PURPLE Antifreeze contains Ethanol and Methanol and I do NOT want Methanol.
I will wait and see what Greg says, although I have a feeling that it could be going back and I'll want at least a Tenner for my Petrol.

Wow, as an old guy, I do recall Alcohol as a coolant. WWII ! I worked in a full Service station circa 1946. Glycol had gone to war, and a supply had not yet returned. My boss did get a bunch of tins of Alcohol. I don't know if it was ethanol or methanol. We sold it all fast....
AF is all glycol. Either with propylene (sp) or ethylene (sp). I prefer the former. Said to be less toxic to animals that are attracted to spills.
The catch is the additives, the inhibitors. Some do not mix. The "different" additives are the basis for the claim of extended life.

Just what I needed to know, this Purple Stuff contains Methanol to give it extended life (I would presume)
So it won't be going in my Car, they can have it back.
