Dain, getting a good quality service manual will always come in handy. If you can find an old dealership manual, that would be ideal as it will have most of the information that you will need.
You have already made a good step in getting here. I think you will find this place to have tons of information and there's lots of us that like to share info to help each other out. So, when you get a question, ask away. If you had a few year newer XJS, I would tell you to spend the $10 on a JTIS CD (Jaguar Technical Information System CD). It has a lot of information on how to fix various systems. The downside is that most of the CDs like this that you will find on say E-bay start in 1995 and go towards the newer vehicles. If your body style is the same as a 1995, then you might be able to find some use from the CD, but the wiring associated with the motor will be completely different due to converting from the EEC-IV system (what you have in your car) to the OBD-II systems (what all modern cars use).
Ask away and enjoy the site.

I looked at eBay and found a lot of them. What is your opinion of these?

Dain, for the price, I would start with the CD. That should cover most of what you are after. The only thing to keep in mind with the CD is that you will need to pay attention to what years the specific diagram applies to. The wiring in cars back in 1975 is completely different than that in 1990. So, pay attention to that and all should be good.
