1930 Duesenberg J sedan, not supercharged , straight 8 cylinder, 4 valve per cylinder, pent roof chamber, double overhead cams ,gear driven!, liquid Mercury balanced crankshaft,ETC.
now you got me remembering , when had my shop in Daytona bch had a guy restoring a Duezy engine,(new smyrna bch).
he could not find an auto machine shop that would surface deck the block and head within 100miles, Liabilities,, so he came to me and asked , i said OK , he left and about week later i called and said they are ready!!
he paid agreed price of $500. bucks, (specialized work). after loaded in his truck he said he worried that if the block damaged and could not be repaired, only one was available in USA , asking price $150,000. bare block.
yes i was out of touch on the reality of costs of that level of luxury parts!,, BUT i enjoyed every minute of doing it, after hours in the shop, ALONE!
Perhaps he went there in his XJS?
So far, however, we don't even know where this is. I like the D'berg out of those myself, but yes, this isn't really the right place for a purely non-related-cars post.
for those that appreciate the finer things in life!
pic of MY machine shop doing a line bore main saddles, on a Lambogini V12 engine block(not the Audi V10 ).
owner let his son borrow car for Hi-school dance , well went out off roading Yikes, stuck in mud and and overheated engine. spun a main bearing.
owner had a local forign car shop do a rebuild on engine, well they contacted Lambo office ITALY, response was no one in USA can line bore the block ,need to buy new block ($25,000. bare block).
i got the job of doing the block and set of warped heads, Lambo V12. all came out fine , last i heard was car still running great ,BIG THANKS,, heads were $1100. each bare! Lambo V12 , line bore
This isn't a forum for American cars, there are plenty of those.
What is wrong with taking a minute a looking at some great history? I appreciate the effort to bring us some great photos and fun discussion. I love all wonderful cars and even though I am not really into the older cars you just cannot deny the craftsmanship and styling that went into the older Caddy's etc.
There was a time when what car you drove really spoke volumes on your financial status. Very few could afford the luxury cars back then because they cost more than the average house. That is what made Jaguar unique in the sense that even though they were not affordable to all they were still affordable to at least the upper middle class where as a Rolls was not. Mr. Lyons always did a great job of bringing so much style and craftsmanship to the market but at a affordable price range. That is why it is good to look at other manufacturers because it puts things in perspective and makes you appreciate the Jaguars of all generations.

Nothing.
However, if I want to look at pictures of pretty cars from random foreign countries there are many places I can do that. Indeed, there is even a subsection here for Non-Jaguar vehicles, just like there is one for X-Types, XF's and E Types etc. This particular sub forum is specifically for XJS's, so anyone who wants to look for XJS information can find it without having to wade through posts on other cars. If I was wanting to look for pictures of 1931 Cadillacs I would not think to look at the XJS forum, I'd look in the Non-Jaguar section.
If you have a problem with your XJS would you post it in the X305 section? Or the parts for sale section? I hope not, as nobody would be able to help you. It's about putting things in the places where they can be found and appreciated, plus respecting other users who want to read things related to the forums stated subject matter.
I have often thought about what it would have been like to see the first E-type or the '63 Corvette when they were unveiled. Both cars knocked it out of the park and where such a vast departure over their prior generations. The Toyota 2000GT also was a vast step forward but they were so rare and expensive I have never seen one in person.
I have said for years that if either the E-type or the '63 to '67 Vette were produced in as small of numbers as the 2000GT they also would be commanding the prices that the Toyota does now.
I think the original poster felt comfortable enough to want to share something with what he thought were his Jag friends. Friends that would have stuck by him while deviating slightly from the normal Jag conversation. Of course car models should be put where people can find or search for them but since these American cars he was sharing time with you all was not part of this forum anyway, they wouldn't be cars anybody on this forum would be "searching" for anyway. I don't think the cars that were being introduced in this conversation were expected to be searched for and so what does it matter that we take 10 minutes out of our busy day to have a side conversation about them. If the cars are not part of any search here, no one would be sifting through them. Let's not be too stiff around here.

I respect where you are coming from but the title did say " when USA made great cars " so fair enough to expect if you are not wanting to read something about great USA cars you simply would not even open up the thread. By the way I also belong to a few other forums on cars that I own that are not Jaguar related. I have posted threads about my Jaguars on those forums and did not have any one complain-just sayin.
